Palis Awarded 2008 Tartufari Prize
The Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei has awarded Professor Jacob Palis the 2008 International Tartufari Prize in Mathematics. Palis was a Member of the ICTP Scientific Council from the early 1990s and its Chairman from 2003 to 2005, and is a close friend of ICTP. He will receive the Prize from the President of the Republic of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano, at a ceremony to be held on the 12th June at the Accademia's headquarters, in Rome.
Founded in 1603, the Accademia is the oldest in the world among Academies of Sciences. Its first member was Galileo Galilei.
