A MATTER OF DEGREES
Twenty-eight students have just graduated from ICTP's Diploma Course, carrying with them advanced degrees in high-energy physics, condensed matter and mathematics. Many have received scholarships to continue their education in Ph.D. programs in universities from around the world, including Syracuse University, Texas A&M University and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in the United States; Kaiserslautern University in Germany; and Nijmegen University in The Netherlands. Next year's class has already arrived in Trieste. The 30 new students, coming from 23 different countries, including Azerbaijan, Costa Rica and Sudan, begin their studies on October 1. ICTP launched the Diploma Course six years ago to help talented young scientists from developing countries advance their careers. To date, 23 Diploma Course graduates have gone on to receive Ph.Ds.
