RESEARCH WORKSHOP ON CM PHYSICS RESTRUCTURED
The Research Workshop on Condensed Matter Physics - one of the major activities of the ICTP - will consist of 4 consecutive topical miniworkshops: Quantum Monte Carlo Simulations of Liquids and Solids; Superconducting Mesoscopic Structures; Pattern Formation and Spatio-Temporal Chaos; and Quantum Wells, Dots, Wires and Self-Organizing Nanostructures. Each miniworkshop will last 2 weeks. The new, more formal, structure will help scientists from the developing countries gain stronger exposure to the latest achievements in these fields, which will undoubtedly help them in an increasingly competitive world.
The highlight of this year's Research Workshop will be the awarding of the ICTP Prize 1996 that will take place on 18 July. Dr. Arun M. Jayannavar from the Indian Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar (India) will receive the Prize for his contributions to mesoscopic physics, the study of the wave-like behaviour of electrons in conducting wires.
