Mission of the Office of External Activities
The Office of External Activities (O.E.A.) assists scientists in the Third World in developing their research and education activities by offering financial assistance and scientific cooperation. Experience has shown that, in addition to the programmes that are held in the "North Institutes", it is essential that scientists in developing countries be given the possibility to organize activities in their own country to break isolation and stimulate exchange of information.
Support is offered through short-term activities and long-term projects organized in developing countries.
Short-term activities: The O.E.A. provides grants to organize international/regional scientific events in developing countries, i.e. conferences, workshops, courses/colleges.
Long-term activities: The O.E.A. offers support towards scientific initiatives planned over an extended period (several years), which will lead to long-lasting follow-up effects, i.e. ICTP Affiliated Centres, Networks, and Visiting Scholars/Consultants.
