ICTP will serve as host for UN Day on 24 October 2005. The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. in the Main Lecture Hall. ICTP Director K.R. Sreenivasan will preside and representatives of Trieste’s UN-related institutions will be presentâ€”including the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), the International Centre for Science and High Technology (ICS) and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS). So too will officials from Trieste and the surrounding region. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the United Nations Organization. The celebration will begin with a video message from UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. Giulio Giorello, University of Milan, Italy, will then present a lecture on Albert Einstein in honour of the 2005 International Year of Physics. There will also be a presentation of prizes to high school students from Trieste who have excelled in physics. A photographic exhibit by the local photographer Carlo Pacorini and a concert by SISSA’s Choir will also be part of the event, which will conclude with a buffet lunch. The public is invited to attend.
