Conference Honours Ghirardi

GianCarlo Ghirardi, long-time consultant of ICTP, will be honoured on the occasion of his 70th birthday with a “double” celebration. On 5 September, ICTP will serve as the initial location for a conference on quantum mechanics. Ghirardi’s life-long achievements will be honoured at this time. The conference will then be moved to Losinj, Croatia, where it will continue from 7 September to 9 September. Among the distinguished guests joining the celebration are ICTP Dirac Medallist Stephen L. Adler (Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, USA); David Albert (Columbia University, New York, USA); Giovanni Jona-Lasinio (UniversitÃ  â€œLa Sapienzaâ€, Rome, Italy); Roger Penrose (Oxford University, Oxford, UK); and Alberto Rimini (UniversitÃ  di Pavia, Pavia, Italy). In 1986, Ghirardi together with Rimini and Tullio Weber, University of Trieste, developed the GRW model to explain the classical behaviour of large objects.
